The site is located on Longmoor Road on the outskirts of the village of Liphook, Hampshire. It is currently occupied by two large 4 bedroom detached dwellings. This proposal seeks to establish the redevelopment of previously developed land to a density more in-keeping with local planning policies. The existing dwellings are larger than most families’ current requirements and the new family housing will offer more efficient, sustainable and energy efficient environments and make best use of the land. The proposal is therefore to replace two larger houses with six smaller houses carefully inserted in to the landscape in a low impact courtyard layout.
The immediate context of the site is characterised by a sporadic and organic growth of dwellings. The size, layout, materials and style of the dwellings in the immediate context is mixed but is limited to detached and semi-detached houses served by small access roads either directly off Longmoor Road or via un-adopted roads. In the immediate locality high density developments exist in Bircholt Road (40 dwellings per hectatre), Lark Rise (27 dpa) and Hazledene Road (25 dpa). It is therefore considered that these proposals at 27 dwellings to the hectare are entirely consistent with indigenous development.
